My name is Sonja Kuch and I work as a Global Diversity & Inclusion Manager in Düsseldorf.
I graduated from European Business Studies and hold different positions in International Marketing and Market Research within Henkel.

2. What does “diversity” mean to you?
Diversity is the understanding and accepting that all of us are different and unique in all kinds of dimensions – not just the apparent ones such as gender, age, national origin, but also the ones “at second glance” like individual talents, experiences, mindsets or ways of life.

3. What does “inclusion” mean to you?
Inclusion means to welcome, value and maintain diversity in the company culture in order to unlock everyone’s specific potential and to use this asset to strengthen Henkel’s competitiveness in an increasing complex business environment. It is to provide equal opportunities to everyone by respecting the different backgrounds and skills.

What does “diversity” mean to you?

Diversity means for me having a team with people with different age, gender, cultures, approaches etc.
Diversity is letting the people being individual and benefit from this individuality.

What does “inclusion” mean to you?

Inclusion means for me bringing the different people together and to set up a community without any biases or restrictions. Everybody should respect and accept the others as they are and try to learn as much as possible from each other. Inclusion is living together not next to each other.

Hello, my name is Olga Knyazeva. I am Regional HR KAW U-W CEE and Diversity and Inclusion Ambassador for my region. I am very exited to be responsible for diversity and inclusion, as both of these topics are a part of my life. From one side, I have personal experience to live in countries with very different cultures, mind set, life styles and business styles, like Russia, Japan and now Austria. And from the other side, being myself a working mother of 2 kids, I respect and fully share our Company’s commitment to inclusion on work.

What does “diversity” mean to you?

The world itself is very diverse: there men and women of different ages, abilities, national origins, marital status, sexual orientations, religions; with very different educational, professional, cultural background. So each of us has an own, very individual and very special set up. And diversity means a commitment of the company to recognizing, respecting and appreciating the variety of all these characteristics that make each individual unique.

What does “inclusion” mean to you?

If diversity already exists in the society, inclusion is to be created. For me, inclusion is about focusing on the needs of every individual and ensuring the right conditions are in place for each person to achieve his or her full potential.

Question 1

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Many things at different stages of my life: teacher, journalist, diplomat, housewife, freelancer, educator etc.

Question 2

What has motivated you to take on a position of high responsibility within Henkel?

During each phase of my career, I could always think of a senior manager who believed in me and stretched me beyond mý own perceived limits. This gave me a lot of encouragement. Beyond that, I think it is also about me taking charge of my career. I always try to give the best efforts at whatever I do.

What were the milestones in your career and are there people or circumstances that have favored your career?

At each stage of my career, I always had the trust of the management team and I always had visibility. As a result, I was inspired to develop the Women Mentorship Program for Asia Pacific during my tenure in Human Resources, because I believe it is really helpful to have a mentor that can offer advice and share experiences.

What is your advice to women seeking to build careers?

It is like all business planning: you need to have a plan and then build a roadmap to get there. Be confident. Women usually underestimate and undersell their strength. That was one of the reasons why I established the Women Mentorship Program: to be confident, to aspire further and higher. My three principles are to be curious, learn fast and work hard.
